Julia Randall Preschool

This play-based program is aligned with the Arizona Department of Education Early Learning Standards, with a focus on critical thinking skills and social/emotional development. The program is supplemented using Fundations and Creative Curriculum. Typically developing peers and those with developmental delays work together and grow in one inclusive environment. Instruction is individualized based upon ongoing progress monitoring (Teaching Strategies GOLD) so the teacher knows what a child knows and what they are ready to learn next. GOLD is an authentic, ongoing observational system for assessing children from birth through Kindergarten. It helps teachers observe children in the context of everyday experiences, which is an effective way to learn what they know and can do.

Screenings

The Lil' Longhorns Preschool program offers free screenings once a month for children between the ages of 2 years, 9 months, and 5 year olds that are not eligible for kindergarten. Children are screened for vision, hearing, cognitive (thinking skills), communication, social/emotional, motor skills, adaptive and self-help skills.

Children that receive a red light after screening are scheduled for further evaluation. Children who meet state criteria for eligibility and are at least 3 years old may be eligible for our Special Needs Preschool Program.

Evaluations

Comprehensive Developmental Assessments are conducted to determine Preschool eligibility, present levels of performance and to assist in placement decisions made by the Multidisciplinary EvaluationTeam.
